Hi! My name is Serina and I am the face behind Exstrawdinary!
The environment has always been my passion, and my goal is to give back to it.
This all began when I was working a summer job at a cafe, and noticed the concerning amount of plastic straws we go through. After some research, I found that plastic straws take over 400 years to fully decompose, and are extremely harmful to aquatic life.
One day, two kind ladies came in and offered us an option to switch to paper straws, which told me that I could do something about this too.
When I returned to school, I noticed how many plastic straws and cups were disposed every day, especially since we were located so close to bubble tea shops and cafes. The metal straws project officially began when I ordered 500 straws and distributed them to people at my school for $1 each.
I took this a step further and took my straws to the student climate strike with my lovely friend Aroha, with a goal of bringing affordable, sustainable alternatives to people who are wanting to make a change. The support, energy, and determination at the strike was overwhelming and so rewarding.
The project was extremely successful, selling out in 12 days!
After selling out, I had to expand further, resulting in the creation of Exstrawdinary! The same, low price and high quality has been kept as my goal is, and has always been to provide as many as possible with the eco-friendly choices of lowest price as possible, and not to profit.
Why metal straws?
I chose metal straws as swapping plastic for metal ones is such a simple yet effective change (and the sea turtles will thank you too!), and as I am just an individual, I cannot make large scale impacts but if I choose one piece of plastic and reduce that as much as I can, I believe that will still make a difference.
You should choose metal straws too as they are 100% safe for food, portable, and a stylish addition to your essentials. Guilt- free drinks have never been better!
Our products
All straws are made from FDA approved 304 stainless steel, high corrosion resistance, and no leakages. They ends have been rounded so you won’t need to worry about it being sharp or cutting.
